BAILEY BURKE

Summer Education, Communication, & Policy Intern

Conducted a research project with ODFW on public perception of red rock crab on the Oregon coast--designing a survey, interviewing crabbers, and producing outreach material. Helped set up, present and collect feedback on potential sport crab gear marking rules.

GRIFFIN THOMS

Summer Engineering Intern

Worked with OSU Engineering and Fisheries & Wildlife faculty to improve the design, operation and efficiency of sampling devices and equipment used with deep burrowing shrimp in Oregon estuaries

SHOSHANA MCCLARENCE

Summer Art Intern

Created a collection of canvas paintings and artistic book entitled “Mystical Experience:  A Glimpse at the Profound Moments Driving the Next Generation of Scientists” based on interviews and experiences with graduate students and post-docs at Hatfield Marine Science Center.

AHMAD AMIR

Summer Science Filmmaking Intern

Created a short documentary film about engendering sense of place in the face of environmental changes using the example of Oregon Marine Reserves Volunteering Program.

MIA ARVIZU

Summer Whale Ecology Intern

Assisted a gray whale research team in Port Orford, tracking whales from a cliff site, photographing whales, kayaking to collect prey samples, and mentoring 2 high school interns. Helped design the research protocol for documenting the correlation between sea urchin abundance and kelp health.

ALEC YOUNGBLOOD

Summer Coastal Tourism Intern

Assisted the Sea Grant Extension tourism specialist in Coos Bay by conducting the 2019 evaluation of online presence and pricing of guided tour operators on the Oregon Coast, redesigning project survey protocols, and applying for a grant with the Oregon Coast Visitors Association

TUCKER CHOCHENOUR

Summer Fishpeople Digital Marketing Fin-tern

Learned social media management and concrete digital marketing skills as the Digital Marketing Fin-tern, while spreading Fishpeople’s message about sustainable seafood. Worked at a more grassroots level to organize interest in sustainability, and helped Fishpeople collaborate with environmentally-focused companies.
