His research seeks to understand the complex spatial structure and time variation of coastal ocean circulation and water properties, and how these influence coastal marine ecosystems. Jack has published over 100 scientific papers and mentored over 20 graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. He has led a number of research, technology development and ocean observing system projects off Oregon and around the world.
Jack Barth presently serves on the Oregon Ocean Policy Advisory Council’s (OPAC) Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee, contributing to the design, implementation and evaluation of a set of marine reserves along the Oregon coast.
